Xiaomi Redmi 4 official: Large battery, starts at $103

Today Xiaomi has made the long awaited Xiaomi Redmi 4 official during an online event. The Redmi 4 is the newest model in the Redmi series which is known for the decent specifications for a budget price.

The first thing that can be noticed of the Redmi 4 is the fact that it differs a lot with its predecessors. This time the Redmi 4 comes with a metal casing and 2.5D glass. The body has been manufacturered using the CNC diamond cutting process and ceramic sandblasting for the back to give the Redmi 4 a clean, smooth and refined body.


Speaking of the back, a fingerprint scanner is placed on the back below the rear camera. Als a tiny antenna band is placed in the metal body using injection molding.

So what can we expect more from this device concerning the specifications?  The Redmi 4 features a 5 inch FullHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Concerning the power, Xiaomi will release to variations: a version with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC and the other a more powerful Pro model with 3GB RAM / 32GB ROM and an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. Both versions also feature a microSD card slot to expand the memory.

Other highlights are a 4100 mAh battery, a 13 Megapixel rearcamera with PDAF, a 5 Megapixel frontcamera, dual-band WiFi, Dual SIM with Dual Standby, 4G LTE and VoLTE support. The Redmi 4 also features an infrared port and runs MIUI8 on Android 6.


The most interesting part of the Xiaomi Redmi 4 is its price. The standard version of the Redmi 4 with its Snapdragon 430 chip, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM costs in China just around $103 (699 yuan), while the better Redmi 4 Pro with a Snapdragon 625 version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB ROM will have a pricetag of just under $133 (899 yuan) .

The Redmi 4 will be available in silver, gold and dark gray.
